KILL or be KILLED is a 20 issue comic book series written by Ed Brubaker, illustrated by Sean Phillips, and colored by Elizabeth Breitweiser.
It follows a young and depressed college student named Dylan.
When Dylan has finally had enough, he attempts suicide. As luck would have it, he hits a few laundry lines and a pile of garbage–thus surviving the fall.
He assumed he survived due to nothing more than dumb luck, but he soon finds out it was much more.
This comic can be defined in a single word:GRIT.
The story is almost too real at times and the art is beautiful its own grungy way.
I came across this comic while going through the shelves at Barnes and Noble. to be honest, the thing that made me buy it was the art. I was flipping through the pages and by coincidence, I stopped on one of a topless demon woman. I was instantly curious as to what the hooded figure with a gun on the cover could possibility have to do with a sexualized demon lady.
Needless to say, the comic is much more than that. In fact, the story itself is almost a direct criticism of that kind of attention-grabbing sexualization of society.
Luckily, when I finished the first issue, the second one had already been released. After zooming through issue 2 in one sitting, I had to wait as the months slowly went by before I could read the next chapter.
If you’re into dark stories that are highly realistic, KILL or be KILLED is a must read.
You can pick up KILL or be KILLED wherever comics are sold. There are four volumes and the talks of a movie being made.
